Copier percentages for converting between scales

We've all come across this problem, a book or magazine has a line drawing of the model you are making but it is in the wrong scale. This table will allow you convert it to the correct scale  using a photocopier

Read down the left column for the original scale, then across to the new scale. The magnification/enlargement factor is shown at the intersection.

Example: Copy from 1/72 (shown in green) to 1/35 (Red) result is 206% (Blue)

Copier reduction/enlargement %

Many of these scales involve a larger magnification than is possible on the average office copier. In this case go via an intermediate scale first. e.g. to scale from 1/72 to 1/35 is an increase of 206%. Copy first to 1/48 (150%) then from 1/48 to 1/35 (137%)

Note that these conversions are ideals. Many copiers are not exact and some adjustment to these figures may be required. It is best to draw a scale on the original drawing and then adjust the copier to get the accurate dimension in the new scale.

Download this Scale conversion table as an Excel file, which also includes a table of conversions from imperial or metric measurements to popular scales.

You can also download a useful scale conversion program [Windows only]  which will convert from any dimension to any scale.
