Or in English
"Are you making an Ass out of me?"

This diorama evolved from being a lone tank halfway through being painted into what is seen today. The kit is Revell's 1/35th scale Soviet KV-1 Heavy Tank which was not a bad kit to build. After starting the model, I decided that some figures were needed to be painting the tank. So a set of German Tank Repair Crew figure by Model Art were purchased. But then after some thinking, I also ordered the Oildrum and Jerry Can set from Tamiya along wit the etched buckets and cans from ModelPlus to be used by the crew painting.
Once the figures arrived, the German commander figures pose gave me an idea, he looked like he was standing shouting at someone. So the final theme of the diorama developed, the commander would be standing on the tank shouting at a donkey/mule in a field looking at them. So after some searching, the Livestock set from Tamiya was purchased as it had a mule in it.
The figures and the mule were all modified slightly for their poses to fit in with the scene. The base was made from a sheet of MDF with the track and terrain made form car body filler. The track surfaces were then covered with a mixture of granite ballast and sand, then painted along with the grass areas. Various grades of scatter was used on for the grassed areas, clumps and tufts of grass from Greenline were placed around the base. The fence is from a model railway scenic range. |
